Jamie Rautenberg, Are You Experienced?: Ep 6, Second Breakfast with Steve

My guest this week on Second Breakfast with Steve is my good friend, Jamie Rautenberg, from TheDailyInfusion.com. She’s a holistic life coach, licensed psychotherapist & spiritual intuitive who helps people to work through chronic illness and pain.

Her own near death experience years ago taught her some profound lessons about life, and she shares some of them with us! She’s a delightful lady, with some deep thoughts. We discussed the physical experience of Fear and Excitement–they are apparently identical, story-telling, how to deal with all emotions, the Nature of Reality itself, and our place within the Universe. According to Jamie, all events are just experiences; it is our own story about them that makes them negative or positive. Don’t miss this one!

You can find Jamie at thedailyinfusion.com, and on the Anchor App, where I found her.

#5: Bobby Kountz: Success on “The Other Side of NO”

On Second Breakfast with Steve,

this week, my guest is another very good friend of mine from Anchor, Bobby Kountz, of c2shiningC.

Bobby has taken it upon himself to help me tackle my relationship with money–a very tall order, for sure–and to develop ways to offer more value to my readers and followers of the Second Breakfast show.

We sat down this week, via Skype, to discuss some of those ideas, which led us into a conversation around the Law of Attraction, success and failure, power of positivity, the ins and outs of creativity and inspiration, as well as the quest for the perfect Eggs Benedict.

You don’t wanna miss this one. We had a load of fun, and you will too. And you might just be inspired to say Yes to your success, and get to the “other side of NO.”

Second Breakfast #4: Justin Finkelstein, Walkin’ Dude & Connector of Man

“I’ve never looked into the eye of a human being and was like, ‘That’s an evil person.’ I’m sure there’s probably some evil people out there, but I think we’re just all kind of like, hurt children.”

My guest this week on Second Breakfast with Steve Bivans, is another of my good friends from the Anchor community, my newest Shire: Justin Finkelstein.

Justin and I met on Anchor almost as soon as I joined, and we became fast friends.

He has an innate sense of compassion and insight, and he delivers this every day while walking to work in the heart of Manhattan, the blare of car horns, the noise of traffic, subway trains, jackhammers, and the voices of New Yorkers banging away in the background.

I was so happy when he agreed to have Second Breakfast with me, and we were finally able to schedule it around both of our busy lives.

This conversation is brings a slightly new format to the show. I’m still sitting in my office chair at Bag End, while the sun is sinking into the west, leaving me bathed in nothing more than the light of my desk lamp, while Justin–in true Finkelstein form, armed with his iPhone–took to the streets of his city for a long walk.

As we discussed our relationship on Anchor, the power of Gratitude, and then importance of authentic human communication– “saying what needs to be said” to strengthen our key relationships, and topics like the End of Fear Itself, whirlpools of piss, positive and negative feedback loops, and the end game for writers and creative people (there isn’t one, just so you know)–Justin strolled along the Hudson River, sat down on park benches with the lights of the New York Skyline and the Empire State Building in the background.

Not only will you watch and hear an amazing conversation, you’ll get to hear what makes Steve Bivans, the writer, tick. And, Justin reveals what his dream job would be–and it’s NOT what he’s doing currently.

So, pop some popcorn, pour yourself a cold drink of some kind–you know what mine is probably gonna be–relax, kick back, and let Justin do your exercise for you! You’re gonna love this one, I guarantee it!

#3 Meredith Arthur: Overcoming Overthinking as a Beautiful Voyager

Do you suffer from anxiety, stress, or overthinking?

Do you ever feel like you have to know all the answers? That you must compare yourself to your friends, family, neighbors? Are you worried about the future?

If so, then you don’t want to miss this week’s episode of Second Breakfast. My guest this time, is another friend of mine from Anchor: Meredith Arthur, the founder of the Beautiful Voyager blog and website.

overthinking

Meredith Arthur

Meredith suffers from Overthinking, and has spent the last year–since her diagnosis–exploring what that means, how to manage it, and function with a brain that spins too much. Does that sound familiar, hobbits? Yeah, I’m an overthinker, too, apparently.

Join Meredith and me for a journey into the sea of overthinking, where we’ll find monsters, dragons, lizard and monkey brains, explore the origins of stress, anxiety, overthinking, consumerist capitalism, advertising, psychology, and kick back on the sandy banks of the Dao and Zen, discuss the merits of ‘going with the flow,’ lighthouses and maps, and of course, talk about our favorite breakfasts.

You can find Meredith at the Beautiful Voyager blog, where you can add your name to her wonderful Lighthouse Map of Overthinkers, join her Slack discussion group, and read engaging content about topics relating to the spinning mind.

Take some time, sit down with us, and as always, let me know what you think!

Shining Lights in a Sea of Overthinking: Part VIII in the Tick Tock Series

I think too much.

I know, big surprise. I do though. I think way too fuckin’ much. Apparently, I’m an OVERthinker. It’s a thing I’m told.

If you’ve been following along on this wild and wooly ride that is the Tick Tock Series, then you know that sometimes my brain goes into overdrive and it keeps me from sleep, gives me headaches, and drives me to drink.

Thankfully, I’ve been able to slow that baby down over the last year, but there are times when  it likes to ramp up again, like this morning, for instance. It’s 1:41am, and I’m not still up, I’m up. That is to say, that I went to bed much earlier–around 9pm–but thanks to the rat shit and rice in my Balrog Blender Brain, I had to get up for a bit. Maybe I’ll go back to bed in a few minutes, if I can put this post together quickly.

I just want to say a few words about a friend of mine, from Anchor, who is also an overthinker, and who runs this amazing little blog about the topic of overthinking, stress, and anxiety, called The Beautiful Voyager. Her name is Meredith Arthur, and she is the guest on this week’s Second Breakfast with Steve Bivans, which goes live tomorrow.

She began her blog recently, because she was looking for ways to manage her brainspin, and wondered how many others were out there struggling through the same issues. What she’s discovered is that there are a shit-ton of us; we are not alone, drifting at sea.

To illustrate this, and bring some light to that fact, she created the following interactive map: her Lighthouse Map for Overthinkers, or as I’m gonna call it, Shining Lights in a Sea of Overthinking.

You can check out the map, below. It’s really fuckin’ cool, and you’ll find yours truly, in St. Paul, MN…the Bag End Lighthouse! Just keep zooming in until you see it.

Are you an overthinker, too?

If so, then go visit Meredith’s site, and fill in the form under the map, and you can get your OWN Lighthouse!

Then make sure to tune in tomorrow, for Second Breakfast, Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 1.53.15 AMto see my interview with Meredith about stress, ovethinking, anxiety, Fear (my favorite topic these days), as well as the social roots of stress, advertising, keeping up with the Joneses, and much more. It really was a great conversation.

Second Breakfast Ep 2-John Hungerford: Self Awareness at 23

There are some people, when you first meet them, that you just know are gonna kick some ass in life.

My guest this week on Second Breakfast with Steve, is one of those people.

When I met John Hungerford on the Anchor App a few weeks ago, I was immediately struck by how driven he was, and the overall clarity he possessed about his mission in life.

Now, this isn’t all that amazing, in and of itself, but John is only 23 years old.

Hell, if I had gotten my shit together at 23, who knows where I might be right now—not that I play such ‘what if’ games with my mind, I don’t. But what John knows about self awareness, meditation, and business, is astounding at such a young age. He reads voraciously and meditates in leu of sleeping—well, not entirely, but he doesn’t sleep much!

He is in the process of publishing what will probably become—when he’s old enough to have written such a thing—his memoirs. Part 1 of his book, Trust Truth: How Building Self-Awareness Helped Me Escape the 9 to 5 to Live the Life I Love, is now available on Amazon—(it’s currently FREE), and is a very interesting read.

If you want to know why a young man—who was originally driven by nothing more than the pursuit of money, so much so, that he went to the trouble of obtaining a degree in marketing and finance—walked away from his first real job as an accountant for a large firm—after just two weeks at work—to pursue self awareness through meditation and spiritual practices so that he could teach this to other young people who would then become the new paradigm of self-aware-business leaders, then you don’t want to miss this episode!
